New Normal scrapes Twitter for the phrase ‘the new normal’ every five minutes and posts the latest 100 tweets while saving the historical ones. It started on 17th May 2020. This self-intiiated project was a response to the increasing deployment of the possibly undefinable phrase to lend weight and certainty to predictions, protests and complaints through the Covid-19 crisis. The phrasing of ‘the new normal’ is somewhat oxymoronic and suggests short-termism and conservative thinking about control and power in the view of a crisis.
